CICS Administrator - Core
The learning streams here provide an overview of IBM Z mainframes and their components, and discusses key concepts of the z/OS operating system and how JES2 is used to process workloads. Some Systems Programmer basics are presented as well as an overview of security products and use of encryption in a mainframe environment.
Content then focuses on the use of TSO/ISPF and z/OS Explorer to access z/OS data. Background on the types of storage devices implemented in the mainframe environment are covered, with training then progressing to JCL where basic statements used to construct a batch job are discussed. The use of SDSF to monitor batch job activity and view batch output is then presented.
CICS courses that cover fundamental CICS functionality and concepts are provided, as well as the use of CICS Explorer to view CICS data on the mainframe.

The learning streams here are not mandatory but help to provide an encompassing view of the mainframe environment that you are working in. For example, z/OS UNIX is available on a z/OS system so knowledge of this product may help the student. The environment under which z/OS processes workloads, and the use of memory and virtualization is also going to benefit you. General network configuration information could also be useful as this person may be called on to identify CICS problems relating to communications across the organization’s network. A broad knowledge of databases, in particular Db2, and IMS, may prove beneficial. Knowledge of script languages such as CLIST and REXX will assist in creating programs used to simplify complex or often-performed tasks.
Other topics such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Big Data, Hadoop, and Spark provide an overview of various technologies that may be available on the mainframe that your organization may be using.
